Project 2

Today we read a booklet about atmospheric moisture advection and precipitation. As i read i noticed that it relates to my blog im doing about flooding. The reasom I think this is because the water from the flooding is evaporated before everything the air is so moist its hard to breathe sometimes.

project 1

Today we started a project that dealt with water, snow, and dirt. The main reason for this project was to see what heated the fastest and what cooled the fastest. By this activity I have learned that things absorb heat but they usually cool at a faster pace. This activity relates to my project because flood water usually takes months to go down and it doesnt help when the earth cant soak up the water left over. Flooding

Floods are an overflow of water that submerges land. Floods are usually caused by the volume of water like lakes, rivers, or oceans that exceed the capacity of water it holds. The word flood comes from the word Old English Flod, a word common to Teutonic languages. There are many kinds of floods but they usually have the same effects.
Riverine floods can be slow or fast because it depends on what kind of weather comes with it. when the flood is slow it is usually because a large quantity of rainfall or snowmelt navigated to a river where there is high precipitation. Riverine floods can sometimes be fast to but only there is an intense thunderstorm.
Estuarine floods are floods that usually occur by sea tidal surges caused by storm-force winds. Another type of flood is a coastal flood thats caused by severe sea storms like tsunamis or hurricanes.
Some primary effects of flooding are physical damages and casualties. Many things are ruined because of so much water like cars, buildings, bridges, and homes. Floods also bring epidemics and diseases that lead to even more deaths. Secondary effects are like water contamination, water bone disease and also a shortage of food like crops. Its very hard to come back from a flood but some how we seem to get by.
Floods can occur anywhere at anytime so some countries have taken action by planning and making their places safer. One idea to help losing lives or buildings is by creating levees, bunds, reservoirs, and weirs to help rivers from bursting their banks.

. Just six inches of fast moving flood water can sweep a person off their feet.
. Most flood related deaths occur at night and are vehicular.
. The vast majority of people killed in a severe thunderstorm or a flash flood are males.

One of the biggest floods that have ever occured was the Johnston Flood of 1889. The flood happened on June first that happened during the night. Over 2,200 were killed and thousands homeless it was a very tragic ending. By the end of everything many people were never found and some were even found years after the flood. The flood was caused by the South Fork Dam breaking sending twenty million tons of water to destroy everything in its way. It took five years to fix everything and till this day are still rebuilding to make their lives safer than before.
